Merchant optimisation

List every product you sell.

People shop across Google more than a billion times a day, and what they see there comes from your product feed. Feeds fail quietly: one disapproval takes products off the shelf while the account still looks healthy.

On your store

What a clean feed looks like.

  • Everything listed that should be

Disapprovals cleared and the cause fixed in the product data, so the same items do not drop out again next month.

  • Attributes that decide placement

GTIN, brand, category, size, colour and availability filled across the catalogue, because those decide which searches you appear in.

  • Titles written for Shopping

Brand, product, size and colour in the order Shopping reads them, so a search for one variant finds that variant.

  • Promotions, reviews, free listings

Promotions, review stars and free listings switched on, so your row is not the plainest one on the page.

  • Rules that survive next season

Feed rules written once, so next season's products inherit them instead of being fixed by hand.

  • Alerts when something drops out

A warning the day a product is disapproved, not when sales fall.

Proof

On one of our clients' stores, products were missing from Shopping because of disapprovals nobody had read. Clearing them put the full catalogue back in front of buyers, which is what the ads then had to sell.

  • What you get

A complete, clean feed, the disapprovals gone, and an alert when something drops out.

  • A good fit if

Anyone selling physical products with more than a handful of SKUs.

  • The honest limit

This makes you visible in Shopping. What you sell there still has to win on price, delivery and imagery.

Questions we get asked

What is Merchant Center optimisation?

Google Merchant Center holds the product feed behind both Shopping ads and free listings. Optimising it means making the feed complete and accurate so every eligible product appears, with the attributes that decide where it shows.

Our feed says active, so is that enough?

Active is not complete. Most accounts have products excluded for reasons nobody has read.

Is this only for ads?

No. Free listings come from the same feed.

Do we need a feed app?

Sometimes. Where Shopify's native feed is enough, that is what we use.
